How we can help

Putting Resolutions into Your Hands

Family mediation is a voluntary, confidential and impartial process by which separating couples seek to resolve their differences with a trained Mediator.

It is important to know Mediation is not counselling or conciliation; the aim is to assist both of you in reaching decisions as to how to resolve your differences on separation. These can sometimes be required as soon as your relationship ends or years after.

What We Offer

Mutual Respect and Transparency

Discussions in Mediation are undertaken on a ‘without prejudice’ basis. This means you are free to explore all options, no matter how ‘outside the box’ they seem to be, to test if they will work for you.

If financial matters are involved, you will both complete a Financial Disclosure form, so when discussions occur you will be fully aware of each other’s financial position. Disclosure is provided on an open basis but the discussions surrounding your options are made without prejudice, allowing you to explore options that will work best for you and your family.

Setting Out Your Proposals

How Does Mediation Work?

Our trained Mediator meets with each of you individually to understand your situation, and for you all to make an informed decision as to whether Mediation is the right choice. If the decision is made by all that Mediation will commence, joint sessions will be arranged.

Typically, Mediation consists of 4 to 6 sessions which last between 1.5 to 2 hours but this will depend on your individual circumstances and can be face-to-face or via video link as appropriate. The purpose is for you to take ownership and create a joint document setting out your proposals for the future that you would then make legally binding.

The Advantages Of Family Mediation

  • Provides mutual understanding and decision-making.
  • A convenient and cost-effective option.
  • Sessions tailored to your specific needs.
  • Conducted by an experienced Mediator who is a practising family solicitor.
  • Offering neutral legal information for you both.
  • Signposting to appropriate experts/legal advice where required.
  • Facilitate effective discussions and negotiations.
