How we can help

If you want an experienced family law specialist to give you an objective assessment of the likely outcome of your financial dispute, we can provide a private financial dispute resolution (private FDR) service. Alternatively, if we are representing you in negotiations, we can arrange for an independent specialist to conduct a private FDR hearing and advise and represent you throughout the process.

One of the hardest things about a financial dispute following separation or divorce is not knowing where you stand. Each party may have a different view of what is fair and how the law applies to their circumstances. A private FDR provides an independent perspective to help you narrow the issues, move negotiations forward and work towards an agreement.

At a private FDR hearing, an experienced family law specialist, agreed upon by both parties, considers the financial information and arguments presented by each side. They then give an indication of the likely outcome if the dispute were decided by a court. This assessment is not binding: neither party is obliged to accept it or settle on the suggested terms. Its purpose is to provide a realistic basis for further negotiations and help you reach an agreement without a contested final hearing.

At Purcell Solicitors, we help clients with private FDRs across Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire, Bedfordshire, Oxfordshire and the wider Thames Valley. Our directors are ranked in Chambers and Partners for family and divorce law, and all our qualified solicitors are Resolution members, committed to helping you reach fair, practical agreements through a constructive, non-confrontational approach. For further information about resolving financial matters following divorce, visit our divorce financial settlement page.

Why Us?

Why Choose Purcell Solicitors for Private Financial Dispute Resolution?

The value of private financial dispute resolution depends on the expertise and experience of the specialist conducting the hearing. A thorough understanding of family law and how courts approach financial settlements is essential to providing a realistic assessment that helps both parties move towards an agreement.

At Purcell Solicitors, we also understand the practical considerations involved. The process is most productive when both parties are prepared to consider an independent assessment with an open mind. Where we represent you, we will help you prepare for the hearing, explain the specialist’s assessment and advise you on your options for reaching a settlement.

Please call us on 01908 693000 or fill in our contact form, and one of our family law solicitors will call you to discuss your situation.
