The landmark case of White v White [2000] UKHL 54 introduced the yardstick of equality, establishing that a homemaker’s contribution carries the same legal weight as a breadwinner’s. The subsequent case of Miller v Miller; McFarlane v McFarlane [2006] UKHL 24 refined this, setting out needs, sharing, and compensation as the three guiding principles.
